Explanation In Favor Of Books Roseflower Creek

Roseflower Creek by Jackie Lee Miles was offered for free for the Kindle on Amazon, so I decided to give it a try. The story involves the life, murder, and afterlife of a 10-year-old girl named Lori Jean, written from the point of view of the little girl. (Note: This is not a spoiler as it tells you that in the very first paragraph.) It is set in the 1950's in a very poor part of Georgia.

Even though the story itself deals with a tough subject matter, it is very engaging. It is written as though Lori Jean were sitting there talking to you, complete with a drawl and moments of joy and pain that a child feels. I felt connected with Lori Jean right from the start was compelled to hear her tell her story.

Roseflower Creek is one of those books that just stays with you long after you read it. It is not exactly "entertaining" because of the subject matter at hand, but it does have a certain endearing quality and once I started, I had a hard time putting it down.

Criticism Out Of Books Roseflower Creek
The morning I died it rained. Poured down so hard it washed the blood right off my face. That opening set the pace and tone of this book. Lori Jean recounts the events that led to this day and even though I knew what was coming, I wished for her dream of a normal, loving family to come true. Loved this book!

A sad gripping tale told through the eyes of a young girl in rural GA. Very well written, painting a picture of love, family, friendship abuse and tragedy in a small community.

I downloaded this book onto my iPhone not really knowing what to expect. It is written from the view of a child but done in such a way that I couldn't put it down. I read this book in one day. Not the norm for a busy Mom of 3! I would caution readers because the content is so tragic it's difficult to take in... understandably so after reading the very first sentence of the novel. It must be noted however, that there is not a lot of description and detail into the trauma, but as a Mom, I still

My physical reaction to reading this book? A shrug of the shoulders. Honestly, it shouldn't be given the content (intergenerational violence/child abuse) but this reminds me of the voyeurism of most modern police procedurals: plot-driven with a clear view of violence happening to the victim(s) and a lukewarm attempt of character development at the end. The author gives us violence but what is the reader supposed to do with it other than feel sorry for the victims? As endearing as Lori Jean's

The story is written in the voice of 10 year old Lori Jean... who just happens to be dead. The book begins in a very graphic scene where it's clear to the reader that Lori Jean was beaten to death and then just left in Roseflower Creek. For the next 220 pages, Lori Jean tells her story, including what happened on the day of her death. She also gives some details about what took place after she died -- when she was looking down at her loved ones from Heaven.Lori Jean is an absolutely wonderful

Now I can handle a tragedy but this was over the top, in fact everything was so sad and turned out so poorly for this family that towards the end I wasnt even surprised with every horrible happenstance! It became too much, almost blase. With that being said, this story is endearing. I loved this little girl that was dealt such a bad hand and was interested in the outcome even though you know what happens in the first chapter, as it is told to you that this child is beaten to death by her
