The book brought me from modern Earth to another world in a different dimension where clouds spew floating castles and people can make a portal to a practically anywhere. Also, Brandon Mull, the author, has written 14 #1 New York Times Bestseller and has his books published in over 30 different languages. 3.5 (ish) stars. This was actually pretty good, but so weird. Yeah, it was kind of bordering unbelievable in the magic system, but maybe it was unique, I don't know. The characters were fun but did seem kind of cookie-cutter, like I've read about them in 89% of other fantasy books. On a brighter note, I absolutely loved the whole shawl thing. I would have liked this book better if I didn't love the beginning so much. I really enjoyed the idea, set up, and characters, though they did seem to act older than their age. I liked the detail of the world, and I really liked the Sky Raiders part--it had excitement without being too fast paced, logical goals and sequencing yet with room for spontaneity, both plot and character development.
