Narration Supposing Books Everyone's Just So So Special

The history of the world. All of it. Its wars, its empires. Each and every one of its decline-and-falls. It's really terribly simple. It's the story of a bunch of mediocrities who are trying to look special. And it is my duty, it is my pleasure, to expose the lot of them.

A little boy who betrays his father to the mercies of Santa Claus. An assassin whose personality is so insipid he erases people with his very presence. A kitty cat that likes to hunt only endangered species. Camel marriages, killer angels, and conjuring tricks that cause worldwide plague.

The history of mankind. As told through twenty-one tales of the comic and the macabre. Frightening and funny. Heartbreaking and wise.

Robert Shearman's stories have won the World and British Fantasy Awards, the Edge Hill Reader's Prize, and the Shirley Jackson Award

Evaluate Out Of Books Everyone's Just So So Special
Once again Robert Shearman has wowed me with his plausible wierdness, hilarious horror and the way he can make any normal situation insane. Loved this collection of short stories, my favourite possibly being the one about a little girl who makes a friendship with a threadbare and dying piece of sky. It baffles me that Shearman is not more famous but am glad to see that he rakes in the Hugos, Sci fi and fantasy book awards every year. He totally deserves them. And he's such a nice, friendly

'Everyone's Just So So Special' is Rob Sheerman's third collection of short stories and it is, as usual, really bloody brilliant. Sheerman's writing has become more complex and layered than it was in his previous collection ('Love Songs for the Shy and Cynical') which was already much more complex than the writing in his first collection (the beautifully simple 'Tiny Deaths'). The weakest story in this collection is 'What's the Buzz', a story of sex, sisters and Jehovah's witnesses. Still an

Robert Shearman is not like any other writer you've read. Everyone's Just So So Special is half short story collection and half novel, with the novel hiding amongst a series of increasingly ridiculous and bizarre historical events, only fully revealing itself as you get towards the end of the book. In between these historical sections is a set of short stories that show why Shearman is the finest horror writer of his age. It's hard to decide whether his disturbing, off-brand black humour or the

Every story in here is excellently crafted. I especially liked Times Table which is a wonderful observation on aging.

Wonderful! What else would you expect from Rob Shearman?!This book has (at least) three levels and although it is a collection of short stories, they are all woven together by the "interludes" (no more info - you have to find out for yourself). Some of the topics keep cropping up again and again but never from the same angle.

Starkly funny, beautiful, dark, clever, quirky. Don't mind the fine print: it's worth the effort. This is the kind of book you only find once in a lifetime. It will dazzle you.
